Tap water legally contains chlorine, chloramine, disinfection byproducts, solvents and bacteria. These results come from report FW251211-25, including the numbers below 80%.

Chlorine and chloramine

Chlorine & Chloramine

The same chemical used to disinfect swimming pools is running through your showerhead every day.

Chlorine keeps pipes safe, and it does not stop working when it reaches your skin. It strips the oils from your hair and skin barrier and disrupts the microbiome on your skin surface. Chloramine, chlorine bonded with ammonia, is harder to filter still. The Pro Series measured 99.06% new and held 98.51% at its full 10,000L life.

Reduced up to 99.99%

Disinfection Byproducts & Solvents

Some of these are created by the treatment process that makes your water safe.

When chlorine meets organic matter it forms trihalomethanes, which the EPA regulates for long-term health risk. All three tested above 99.95%. Fourteen industrial solvents were also tested, including trichloroethylene, benzene and vinyl chloride, ranging from 95.65% to over 99.99%.

Reduced up to 99.32%

Microplastics & Particulate

Microplastics have been found in human blood, breast milk and lung tissue.

They shed from pipes and packaging as plastic breaks down, and pass through most municipal treatment because they are too small to catch. The Pro Series measured 99.32% microplastics reduction and 90.51% turbidity reduction, the sediment and rust that clouds water and abrades the skin barrier.

Scope Of Testing

Which product each number on this page belongs to.

Filterbaby sells more than one filter and they are not tested identically. The panel below was run on the Shower Filter Pro refill, report FW251211-25. It has not been run on Faucet Filter Pro, which is listed separately.

Three things worth stating plainly

The panel was measured on a new cartridge at zero throughput. Where lifespan data exists it is above, and it is lower. Where it does not, we have not claimed it.

Coliform reduction does not hold across the filter life. It measured 99.01% new and 31.20% at 1,000L. We publish that rather than the initial figure alone.

We have not tested for PFAS. Anything absent from the list below is something we have no data on, and we make no claim about it.

Testing & Certification

Tested to independent safety standards.

Filterbaby shower filters hold IAPMO certification, tested to NSF/ANSI 177 standards, and the American Hair Loss Association seal. Independent third parties verified the claims, not us.

American Hair Loss Association Approved

Filterbaby Shower Filters are the only American Hair Loss Association approved shower filters (2026), the first recognised for hair-loss-relevant water quality standards.

IAPMO Certified, Tested To NSF/ANSI 177

Shower Filter Pro holds IAPMO certification, tested to NSF/ANSI 177 standards for chlorine reduction. Measured 99.06% new and 98.51% at the full 10,000L rated life. Faucet Filter Pro is a separate product and is not covered by this certification.

Independent Lab Testing, FSDA and FAFT

All performance data here comes from independent lab testing, not internal claims. FSDA ran the 60+ contaminant panel. FAFT ran lifespan testing. Both reports are below.

What is in U.S. tap water?

U.S. municipal tap water legally contains halogens and disinfection byproducts, volatile organic compounds, pesticides, microplastics and particulate, and microbiological contaminants. The EPA regulates over 90 contaminants under the Safe Drinking Water Act, but legal limits are not zero. Shower Filter Pro was tested against 60+ contaminants, and the results below come from that panel.**

Contaminants we tested, and what we measured

Each percentage is how much of that contaminant a new Shower Filter Pro refill reduced in independent lab testing (FSDA, report FW251211-25). The line under each shows the level before and after. Results apply when used and replaced as directed; ±6% efficacy fluctuation from lab certified testing.**

In-Vitro Lab Study · February 2025

Your skin heals faster in filtered water. Here is the science.

Identical skin cell cultures were exposed to two conditions: water at standard municipal chlorine levels, and Filterbaby-filtered water. Cells in filtered water performed better on every marker tested.

Cell proliferation rose 20.61%, meaning skin generates new cells faster when not fighting chemical stress. Barrier lipid production rose 126.5%, and scratched skin recovered at 56.14% against 33.2% using tap.

Frequently asked questions

How many contaminants has Filterbaby tested?
Shower Filter Pro was independently tested against 60+ contaminants by FSDA, report FW251211-25. Results ranged from 72.94% up to 99.99%. Faucet Filter Pro has separate testing, shown in the scope table above.**
Does Filterbaby reduce chlorine in shower water?
Yes. Shower Filter Pro measured 99.06% free available chlorine reduction new and 98.51% at its full 10,000L rated life, tested to NSF/ANSI 177-2022.**
Does Filterbaby reduce microplastics?
Shower Filter Pro reduced up to 99.32% of microplastics and up to 90.51% of turbidity in FSDA testing.**
Does Filterbaby reduce PFAS?
We have not tested for PFAS, so we make no PFAS claim. We also make no claim about any contaminant not listed on this page.
Does it perform this well for its whole life?
Not uniformly, and we would rather say so. The panel was measured on a new cartridge. Chlorine holds well at 98.51% by 10,000L. Coliform does not, dropping from 99.01% new to 31.20% at 1,000L. Replace refills as directed.
Is Filterbaby third-party tested?
Yes. FSDA ran the 60+ contaminant panel on Shower Filter Pro. FAFT ran lifespan testing to NSF/ANSI 177-2022. Both reports are available above.
